Understanding GPA in Sri Lankan Universities

GPA (Grade Point Average) summarises your academic performance in a single number on a 4.0 scale. Each grade you earn maps to a point value — for example A and A+ are worth 4.0, while a B is worth 3.0.
Your GPA is a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credit value, add those up, and divide by the total credits. Higher-credit courses therefore have a bigger impact on your GPA.
Degree classifications (First Class, Second Upper, Second Lower) are typically based on GPA thresholds, though exact cut-offs vary between universities and faculties.
